Nigeria’s Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma, met Federal Controllers of Housing from the country’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja on Tuesday to review project implementation, address operational challenges, and improve coordination in delivering federal housing programmes.

The interactive meeting brought together the Ministry’s senior field officials to assess ongoing operations and align implementation with the government’s housing priorities.

Darma outlined his policy direction for the ministry and urged the controllers to support efforts aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s housing sector.

He called for a more regulated, coordinated and accountable housing system, stressing that government agencies and industry stakeholders must work together to maximise the sector’s contribution to national economic growth.

Darma noted that Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics ranks the real estate sector as the country’s third-largest contributor to Gross Domestic Product, underscoring its strategic importance to the economy.

The minister also urged the Federal Controllers to uphold high professional standards and carry out their responsibilities diligently to help the ministry achieve its presidential priorities and ministerial mandates.

Permanent Secretary Dr. Shuaib Belgore responded to issues raised during the meeting and directed the controllers to follow established administrative and communication procedures in all engagements with the ministry. He said adherence to these processes would strengthen coordination and improve service delivery.

Darma reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the administration’s broad policy framework that includes expanding access to housing and improving infrastructure.
