The Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed 26 individuals to the boards and management of 10 federal agencies and commissions, in a move aimed at strengthening governance, public administration and strategic sectors of Africa’s largest economy.
The appointments, which take immediate effect, were announced on Monday in Abuja by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Among the most prominent appointments is former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, who was named Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), the government body responsible for expanding electricity access to underserved communities. Major General Junaid Bindawa was appointed Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, which advises the government on public sector remuneration and wage policies.
Fayose will lead the REA board alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as non-executive directors, while the agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and previously appointed executive directors will continue to serve on the board.
President Tinubu also approved eight appointments to the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission. Former lawmaker Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas was named Secretary of the Commission, while Dr Ogbole Ene Lilian, Oladele Olatubosun and Yakubu Umar Barde were appointed commissioners representing Benue, Oyo and Kaduna states respectively.
Other commissioners appointed to the body include Dr Mai Adamu Yau, Ginika Florence Tor, Engineer Lawrence Okoh and Bello Morenike Iyabode, representing different regions of the country.
In a related development, Tinubu redeployed Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, previously Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund, to serve as Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, a key institution responsible for revenue-sharing and fiscal policy oversight.
The President also appointed Dr Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission, Dr Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company, and Dr Anthony Inalegwu Godwin as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.
Further appointments include Engineer Julius Oloro as Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation, succeeding the late Dr A.R. Kamal, who died in January. Tinubu also constituted the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, naming Dr Abdullahi Maikano Saidu as chairman alongside six other members.
Shuni Muhammad Dahiru was appointed Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, replacing Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was reassigned earlier this year.
To fill a vacancy at the Federal Housing Authority, Tinubu appointed economist and legal scholar Gisaor Vincent Iorja as Executive Director, following the resignation of former Finance Executive Director Mathias Byuan.
The appointments come as the Nigerian government pursues reforms across critical sectors, including electricity, fiscal management, population planning, education and housing, with officials expected to play key roles in implementing the administration’s development agenda.
